Site Title/Logo
Changing your site title is easy. From the dashboard, go to Appearance > Customize. Then you will see this:
You will notice that the preview changes so you can see what your title looks like. Use lower case when typing your title so that Google results will look better. On your site, the title will come out all caps automatically.
If you prefer to use a logo instead of text, just move down a little on the Customize menu to where it says “Header Image”
Main Image
To update the main image, we are still under Appearance > Customize
Then you should choose Background Image
The sample image that is there now is 1600px wide x 852px tall. I recommend that you use a similar size image, but it does not need to be exact.
Tagline Text (Text right under main image)
This is the text that says “Discover a more beautiful you.” on the sample site: https://excellermarketing.com/starter-one/
We will be going back to the Customize area. To get there, go to Appearance > Customize in the left menu. Then click on Site Title & Tagline.
To change the text under that title, first click on Widgets.
Social Media Area
We will be going back to the Customize area. To get there, go to Appearance > Customize in the left menu. From there, click on the Widgets link again. For the social area, we will be using Home Featured 1-4. So if you click on Home Featured 1, you will see “Simple Social Icons”, which sets up the Facebook icon, and then you will see “Text: Facebook” which sets up the text underneath.
When you click the tiny arrow next to the Simple Social Icons widget, it will open up and give you lots of options.
You can use this color picker to help you with the hex codes: http://www.w3schools.com/tags/ref_colorpicker.asp I recommend you write down the hex codes of your favorite colors so that you won’t have to try to find them again.
Be sure to click the blue save button at the top when you have made your changes.
Text Under Icon
For the text under the icon, we will be using that Text widget. Click the arrow next to it to drop it down so you make changes. The title will be the top word you see, ie “Facebook”.
Continue this process for the other 3 social media areas.
Also, this area does not have to be social media. You can get rid of the Simple Social Icons widgets by clicking Delete at the bottom of the open widget and just use the Text icons to say whatever you want. However, you do need to plan on having 4 items here.
Text Boxes
Here we will talk about how to change the text boxes area. On the sample site, it says “Color, Cut, Style”.
We will be going back to the Customize area. To get there, go to Appearance > Customize in the left menu. From there, click on the Widgets link again. This will all be managed through the Home Featured 5 Widgets area.
Again, be sure to click the blue save button at the top to save your changes.
Testimonials
This area works exactly the same way as the section above, just use Home Featured 6 text widget.
Footer
This area works exactly the same way as the Text Boxes section above, just use the Footer 1 & 2 widgets. Simply replace the title and text with your own text. The only thing that is different is the image. You will see this info for the picture on the sample site:
<img src=”https://excellermarketing.com/starter-one/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/kathy-headshot-cropped.jpg” class=”alignleft”>
Simply remove all that to remove the image, or replace the URL (in between the parentheses) to add your own. So remove this:
https://excellermarketing.com/starter-one/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/kathy-headshot-cropped.jpg
You can find your own image URL in the Media library. Simply go to Media > Add New on the left menu.
SEO
All SEO (Search Engine Optimization) will be done in the backend. From the side menu, choose
Genesis > SEO Settings
Most options will be obvious what to fill out and the optimal settings have already been selected for you. Really, all you need to fill out is the second section called “Homepage Settings”
