Site Title/Logo

Changing your site title is easy. From the dashboard, go to Appearance > Customize. Then you will see this:
Customize

You will notice that the preview changes so you can see what your title looks like. Use lower case when typing your title so that Google results will look better. On your site, the title will come out all caps automatically.

If you prefer to use a logo instead of text, just move down a little on the Customize menu to where it says “Header Image”

Main Image

To update the main image, we are still under Appearance > Customize
Then you should choose Background Image

Modern-main-image

The sample image that is there now is 1600px wide x 852px tall. I recommend that you use a similar size image, but it does not need to be exact.

Main Image Text

We will be going back to the Customize area. To get there, go to Appearance > Customize in the left menu.

Tagline Text (Text right under main image)

This is the text that says “Discover a more beautiful you.” on the sample site: https://excellermarketing.com/starter-two/

This section works exactly the same as the section above. We will be going back to the Customize area. To get there, go to Appearance > Customize in the left menu. From there, click on the Widgets link again. This will all be managed through the Home 2 Widgets area.

Text Boxes

textboxes3This is the section with the circle icons and the text under with “Color, Cut, Style”.

This section works exactly the same as the section above. We will be going back to the Customize area. To get there, go to Appearance > Customize in the left menu. From there, click on the Widgets link again. This will all be managed through the Home 3 Widgets area.

The first Text widget controls the icons. They are from the Font Awesome collection. You can find more icons here: http://fortawesome.github.io/Font-Awesome/icons/

Simply pick the icons you want to use and replace the name that we have already with the name you want to use.

Be sure to leave all the other code the same and only change the name of the icons (and the size if you wish).

The icons you will find on Font Awesome look like this:

Text under icons
postsThis text is controlled under Posts on the left hand menu. When you click on that, you will see the 3 posts that are on your home page. Simply click the title of the post to edit the text under it.

Testimonials

We will be going back to the Customize area. To get there, go to Appearance > Customize in the left menu. Then click on Widgets. This area works exactly the same way as the section above, just use Home 4 text widget.

Social Media Area

We will be going back to the Customize area. To get there, go to Appearance > Customize in the left menu. From there, click on the Widgets link again. For the social area, we will be using Home 5, you will see “Simple Social Icons”, which sets up the social icons.

When you click the tiny arrow next to the Simple Social Icons widget, it will open up and give you lots of options.

You can use this color picker to help you with the hex codes: http://www.w3schools.com/tags/ref_colorpicker.asp I recommend you write down the hex codes of your favorite colors so that you won’t have to try to find them again.

You don’t need to have 4 icons here. You can have as many or as few as you like. Just enter those social media links for the ones you want to show up.

Be sure to click the blue save button at the top when you have made your changes.

Footer

footer1This area works exactly the same way as the Text Boxes section above, just use the Footer 1 & 2 widgets. Simply replace the title and text with your own text. The only thing that is different is the image. You will see this info for the picture on the sample site:

<img src=”https://excellermarketing.com/starter-one/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/kathy-headshot-cropped.jpg” class=”alignleft”>

Simply remove all that to remove the image, or replace the URL (in between the parentheses) to add your own. So remove this:

https://excellermarketing.com/starter-one/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/kathy-headshot-cropped.jpg

You can find your own image URL in the Media library. Simply go to Media > Add New on the left menu.

All SEO (Search Engine Optimization) will be done in the backend. From the side menu, choose
Genesis > SEO Settings
Most options will be obvious what to fill out and the optimal settings have already been selected for you. Really, all you need to fill out is the second section called “Homepage Settings”
